Wow! That's about all I can say about my experience with Laurel
Consulting Group. I have been in the Manufacturing world for 13 years,
and have always had the ambition of owning my own business, but I didn't
have the business know-how or the determination to really make it happen.
As I began to assess my career, I realized that the manufacturing world I
was in was becoming more and more driven by the cycle of improve, then
downsize. I knew that this was not the type of legacy that I wanted to
leave, and that I really needed to make the step toward realizing my true
goals.

I wanted a business that could grow; one that could provide opportunities
for others, and be a blessing to the community. I realized that climbing
the corporate ladder, while providing the financial benefits I wanted, was
not going to give me the time I wanted to spend with my wife and children,
or the time to do more in our ministry. So, I decided to use my skills,
experiences, and training in Manufacturing, Engineering, and Lean to build
a business. Since I wasn't very clear on what exactly I wanted, I knew
that I needed someone who could provide the coaching and guidance to help
me build a plan, and establish my exit strategy. With Laurel Consulting,
I found just the type of mentoring that I needed. They were great in
helping me to define my ambitions and taught me to focus on not only what
I wanted to do in life, but what I wanted to give.

Today, I am making that transition, and building my own real estate

Do you only hold consultants in high regard if they espouse pragmatic approaches?  Most consulting groups that I encounter remind me of cotton candy – they “taste” good for a second but have no lasting value.  Moreover, consulting groups that use training as door openers frequently find themselves quickly labeled with my cotton candy moniker.

All of my interactions from the Laurel Consulting Group have been rich in content, style and approach.  One series of encounters with LCG that stand out for me was when I enrolled in their Executive Lean Implementation training.  After the instructor learned that our group was more interested in Lean transactions and less interested in Lean manufacturing, he tailored each of our sessions so that the discussions and group exercises would be easily ported over to our businesses.

In my current multi-site Lean implementation, I find myself frequently referring back to the implementation training materials from LCG.  The implementation roadmaps, tools, reporting dashboards and strategic frameworks from LCG have been most valuable in our journey towards sustained Lean success. 

Would I recommend this firm to a friend?  If they are embarking on implementing or sustaining a Lean transformation, I’d clearly answer Yes.
